FIREFIGHTER CERTIFICATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Question 1 - How do I go about applying for a test? Can I just call the Indianapolis office and tell you I need a written test? Answer - You must complete a request for test form. You will find this form on our webpage. The request cannot be verbal. Question 2 - How do I apply for a written retest? Answer - You must apply for a retest the same as an original test except where it asked for a test number; you will use the original test number and put an R at the end of it. This tells us that the request is for a retest. We also need a roster for all that are going to take this test. Question 3 - Why are all of my certifications not on the web page? Answer - The computer program that contains the information is pulled from was created in December of 2000. That is all of the information the computer program can access. All other certifications are in an older program. If you write to us and ask us to bring the information over; we will do this. We need your name; date joined fire service; date of birth and certification number. Question 4 - I passed the firefighter I/II test but never received my certification. Why? Answer - There can be several reasons for this. The most common is that Basic Firefighter certification has not been completed. The mandatory and basic certifications are two separatecertifications. If you have completed the basic certification training; you must check the box on the application. We do not automatically give this certification level to an individual because you completed mandatory certification level. Question 5 - What counts as hours for my Instructor recertification? Answer - The hours included are; attending adult education classes; or hours attending aclass pertaining to developing learning objectives; test construction; or classroom teaching. This does not include a class you attended for certification unless it is an Instructor class. |
